How to Improve Your Video Views on YouTube
Getting more
views for your video on YouTube is not easy. There are about half a billion
videos competing with you. But unless you are trying to come up number one for
a one- or two-word phrase, it is very similar to local video seo.
The title is
very important: This applies to YouTube as much as to regular SEO for other
pages. The title of the video gives potential viewers the best idea of
themselves in the video.
And you'll
know from the searches that you make on the site, you skim the title as well as
the video thumbnail to decide which one to click on often not the first one in
the results, especially if they are in ads.
Without
spamming the title, check that your keyword phrase is in the title. Ideally in
the same word order as you are hoping people would be searching. If you need to
use punctuation, so that the word order makes sense, it is fine because it is
mostly ignored by the search algorithm and would be considered natural by any
human being. It is also worth making sure that your title is in the title case
with the first letter word in each case. This is an easy diversion, but worth
doing.
Check
thumbnail image: Unless you over-ride the decision, the thumbnail image gives
you one of three options chosen by YouTube that it take as a snapshot.
You can click
on any of these three and it is worth choosing the one that has the most
impact. If you have sufficient privileges on your channel, you can also upload
your own thumbnails instead of one of the images chosen by YouTube.
This can be a
snapshot at a different point in the video or even an image that is not from
the video itself if you think it is more appropriate. However naturally you
should be cautious to ensure that it is still related to the content of the
video.
Check the
details: Video descriptions are indexed by YouTube and Google. They are
regularly read by real people, despite YouTube's best efforts to hide or
minimize them. Think how many times you have clicked the "more" button
to find out what else is in the video description.
If you get
frustrated at the description of your video, if you click on it then it is time
to revise the details. The length of the description is up to you, but if you
are aiming to find it on Google as well as YouTube, it is worth keeping between
200 and 500 words in the box.
If you find
yourself in the flow of writing then there is room for more words. And remember
to include a link back to your site in the description so that people know what
you were talking about in the video.
