How to make a YouTube Channel: Step-by-Step Guide

Hello and welcome, obviously we don't normally have guests here but Caleb is getting ready to start his YouTube channel for the first time and so I thought that we would show you guys what goes into the process because not every day I have to start YouTube channels and so this gives us a really hands-on look at exactly what buttons you have to click in order to get your channel started so let's get started by clicking that sign in button Caleb has created a gmail account that he's going to use to create his YouTube channel so that it can all be set up fresh from the start okay so now Caleb is signed into his YouTube account okay so now all Caleb's going to do is click on the icon that's up in the upper right hand corner where his profile picture would be if
he had a profile picture and now he just needs to click on YouTube studio data there the third item down on that list he's just going to click on create channel if that's the name he wants to use now obviously you could call your channel something else but I think Caleb you mentioned that you wanted to call it your own name right yeah I want to have my own name okay so your channel has been created and you can now customize how the channel looks and I know you already created a banner and we can add in that image that you already created so if you've never added a channel banner before then you might not be aware that the image actually is much larger than that little strip that you see on desktop or that tiny little strip that you see on mobile so in order to design this channel banner
you'll want to use a software that has a template you can use a free software like canva and we can get into that in a future video if you guys want to see a tutorial of that but for now we're just going to use this design that Caleb has already created okay so now your channel has a banner and it looks great and as you can see also these tabs have been created so they exist you can add these different sections which once you have videos on your channel each of those different sections can include different playlists or your most popular videos or your most recent videos as you can actually curate what people when they first come to your channel and you can even decide what people will see if they are an existing subscriber or if they haven't subscribed to your channel yet because maybe you want to show your channel trailer to people
who haven't subscribed yet but to your existing subscribers you want them and to see your most recent video when they come to your channel now the next part of setting up your channel that you want to take care of is to add some information to your About section so that if people try to learn something about you they understand why they would want to subscribe to your channel so you can just go ahead and click on about obviously you can see exactly what you need to do there just click that channel description button and you can type it in that works right okay and then you can save that and you can also add in there a business email address if you want sponsors to be able to reach out to you or if you're using your YouTube account for a business that you are promoting or you're sharing with your customers or something like that and down there in the lower section you can add links to your other social media accounts or to your own website now the last part of setting up your channel that you want to take care of is to add a profile picture so that people know what your looks like and they can see your smiling face so that's what Caleb is going to do right now you just hover over where the profile picture would be and you could click on the camera icon and click on edit and then you can select the picture that
you want to use oh and this side problem so normally the picture of your youtube profile is the same picture associated with your Google account and so you actually have to change the picture on your Google account in order to change the picture on your youtube profile and I think this is a system they should improve because it won't update immediately at least it doesn't always and then it can take up to a couple days just to update on YouTube SEO normally it happens faster than that but it can take a little bit of time okay so it has been added to your Google account now so now let's just go it back over to the YouTube channel and refresh that page and see if it happens to have updated already so at this point it looks like it has partly updated when we go and we visit the channel we do see Caleb Thanks but when we look at his kind of the back end of his account or that I find up there in the corner we see that it still doesn't know what your picture should be but
that will update over time so don't worry if you have that same problem okay well that is everything that you need to do in order to actually create your YouTube channel as you can see it's really simple it works the best though if you do start by creating a gmail account that you're going to associate with it makes the whole process really simple once you have that gmail account created you can click just a couple of buttons and your channel will be created and then it really just comes down to branding creating that channel banner adding that profile picture and writing in that About section what your channel is actually about well thanks so much for doing this with me today and now your channels are ready to go so now is when the real work begins hey before you go I wanted to let you know that I put together a checklist that you can follow in order to get your YouTube channel off on the very best foot so the checklist walks you step-by-step through some different things that you can do in order to kick your youtube channel off successfully
so that you start getting plenty of views and attracting new subscribers right from the start you can find the checklist just by heading over to Gillian Perkins comm / channel - launch - checklist and once you're there just type in your name and email address and it will get sent straight to your inbox here's a quick peek at what the checklist itself looks like I know you'll find it super helpful because this is the exact process that I recommend to my one-on-one clients that they follow in order to get the very best results ok well that's all I've got for you right now but thanks again so much for watching and I look forward to seeing you again next time
